The name Golden Star Company Tattoo is a tribute to a historic American radio station which in 1939 served the Chinatown community broadcasting one hour a day in Chinese.
Studio founder Matt Ahn pays homage to the station and, through his tattoos, represents Asian tattoo culture while supporting Chinatown through the work of his shop! He welcomes us to visit his tattoo studio!

Thank you for visiting us here in the centre of San Francisco’s Chinatown! We are a tattoo shop that has been open for six years and we currently have a team of four people working here plus local and international guest artists who visit us every month.
For the most part we do concentrate on our true love which is Asian style tattoo. Overall we can say that our work is a mix of Asian designs from cultures ranging from the Philippines to Korea and China.
I was born in Seoul, Korea and grew up in the Bronx, New York. My family and I moved to San Francisco from New York City in 2018. My wife was born and raised in San Francisco and spent much of her childhood in the building where the shop resides. I have been tattooing professionally for almost 22 years. I had a formal apprenticeship under Brendan Kennedy, and later moved on to open two shops in Hawaii in the early 2000’s. After a few years I relocated back to New York City to hone my skills at Troy Denning’s Invisible NYC.
