With a degree in philosophy from the University of Madrid, 10 years of piano studies, and a passion for flower photography, Madrid-born Beatriz (known on social media as @des_true) brings her floral tattoos to life. An artist with refined taste, she skillfully plays with black lines and voids and solids to create her botanical designs.
Hi Beatriz would you like to give a nice description of yourself to our readers?
Hi there! My name is Beatriz and I was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. Tattoos are my way of life, and floral pieces are my speciality.
Where are you at the moment? Are you in the studio? What is the environment? What is the background music, what do you see outside etc.?
I work mainly in Europe (Germany, France, Switzerland) and I have my space in Spain, in a really close friend of mine’s studio @sen__tattoo. I vibe to Lana del Rey’s tunes while tattooing and always treat my girls as friends. We share stories and build sincere connections, that’s what tattooing means to me, an exchange of energies, therefore I always focus on giving the best of me.
You are specialised in floral tattoos. Why this choice? Did you come to it over time or was it a lifelong passion of yours?
I’ve always thought of flowers not only as ornaments, but as elements that enhance beauty all around them. I have a pretty aesthetic vision of the human body, and my function is to fill my canvases with flowers to boost their beauty. You could say this passion found me and I embraced it till it became my life.
How did tattoos come in your life and how did you become a professional tattoo artist?
Tattoos found me when I lost my job and from the moment I held a machine I started doing flowers. That’s how it all began and from that moment I’ve been growing and learning more about this profession.
I really respect my clients and have a deep and energetic connection with tattooing, which is transmitted directly into my designs, organic and delicate.
Why did you choose only black?
It’s easier for me to create volume and texture in my flowers with black and grey. I really appreciate the contrast that white flowers with dark leaves create, being the grey direction lines I include in every element the ones responsible for the life and “movement” of my pieces.
Your flowers are very graphic, where do you get your inspiration from?
They’re always real flowers. I’m a floral photography enthusiast, got a huge stack of folders filled with floral shots under the name “tattooable flowers”
What are your passions and hobbies? What interests do you have in common with your customers for example?
I graduated in Philosophy in the UCM (Madrid). Building philosophical conversations with my clients is something I really enjoy, talking matters such as the ephemerality of the tattoo canvas or the vital meaning of the designs. Pianos are the other thing I’m passionate of. When I’m not tattooing I spend hours playing. I spent 10 years at music school when I was a kid and I know a lot about music, which is another interesting subject to chat about with my clients. And I love gossip too!
I know of an art project of yours in collaboration with Ornelie, that we met recently for an interview. Would you like to tell me something about this collaboration?
It caught me off guard when Orni texted me for a collab… Her work is top notch! I felt like my art and hers are a great fit and I know our piece won’t leave anyone indifferent. This is why I love tattooing so much, it connects me to amazing artists.
