They were even close to breaking up but now it’s all over and on May 23rd Skin & co. will be back with their new work ‘The Painful Truth’. Discover all the dates of their future concerts.
Skunk Anansie announces their new studio album named ‘The Painful Truth’. Their seventh studio album and first in nine years, will be released on May 23 via FLG Records.

The second single from the album, titled ‘Cheers’ has been released. You can watch the lyrics video here below:
‘The Painful Truth’ is a truly hypnotic, provocative, powerful and emotional album. «I don’t care if we were great in the ‘90s» says singer Skin. «Creatively it’s irrelevant, because in my rock bible the first commandment is: “If you rest on your laurels, you wither and die artistically, musically and mentally. And then financially.»

For Skin, the past means nothing. Even when you’re a band with a 30-year career and history seems on your side. ‘The Painful Truth’ is the sound of Skunk Anansie coming to terms with who they are and what they want to be. It’s more than an album title. It’s a reality they’ve lived in.

A combination of parenthood, illness, and the loss of their longtime manager seemed to conspire against them and heighten their uncertainty, forcing singer Skin, guitarist Ace, bassist Cass, and drummer Mark to question their place in the world as a band, as well as their personal ambitions.

For a while, they were close to calling it quits…
Unsure of what to do next and unable to write via Zoom, the foursome retreated post-Covid to a farm in Devon where, between heartfelt conversations and home-cooked dinners, they slowly began to gather their feelings through songs.

«When we write, it’s just the four of us in a room, with no distractions or outside interference, and we get to know each other again. We did the ‘Greatest Hits Tour’ and realised that things had to change. If we didn’t do something fresh and innovative, we wouldn’t be a band anymore. We’d just be doing Skunk karaoke» Skin says bluntly.

So ‘The Painful Truth’ – produced by TV On The Radio’s David Sitek – is a radical record made for these uncertain times. The first release on the newly formed FLG Records, it has a freshness that reaffirms their storied career and previous multi-platinum successes.
«When I think about it, yeah, we’ve made some good records in our time, but it’s been a long time since we’ve made a great record. And that’s the.. painful truth!» Skin confesses. «Understanding that, led to what I think is our finest record».
