Mico works in South Korea at ‘Ligthouse Tattoo & Art Studio’ and likes drawing late at night. And the results are noticeable given the richness of her works…
Hi Mico, tell us all about yourself. Who are you and why did you choose to become a tattoo artist?
Hello, my name is Mico and I’m tattooing in South Korea. I started just out of “curiosity”, not knowing much about tattooing. I have been enjoying it for 14 years already, and still going on. Time goes by so fast.
When did you discover that your gifted hand was perfect for producing such rich, complicated and detailed Mandala tattoos?
Every time I make a new Mandala design, I end up adding more detail, and it naturally becomes part of my style. I think this has all been possible because of the clients who trusted me, and I’m always grateful for that.
What inspires you to create your own subjects? I imagine a lot of imagination, but do you also have moments of the day in which you feel more inspired?
I don’t have specific moments when I get inspired, but I do try to write down ideas whenever they come to mind.
I enjoy drawing late at night after finishing the day. That’s when I can focus the best.
Who was (if any) the greatest mentor in your life?
My husband always leads me in a good direction. It’s really lucky that we do the same job and can have a positive impact on each other.
Can you tell me something about your studio in Seoul? Can you describe it to me and tell me where about it is in town?
‘Lighthouse Tattoo & Art Studio’ (IG: @lighthouse_professional_tattoo) has been around for about 12 years, with locations in Nampo-dong, Busan, and Itaewon, Seoul. We have about 20 artists, each doing amazing work with their own unique style. I’m always grateful to be working with such talented friends.
What will be your major events for the summer 2024? I noticed for example that in June you will be in Hong Kong and in July in Taipei…
Yes, I don’t have any other convention scheduled in this year, but I’m planning to go to Hong Kong (Jordan) and Taiwan (Taipei) from the end of June to July. Also I’m planning to go to the United States (New York) around September. I’m looking forward to it!
Do you have an artistic desire that you would like to see realized quickly or are you currently satisfied with what you do?
I’m always thinking and trying to design a better tattoo. Recently, I have become interested in oriental patterns and ornamentals, so I want to show you more of it in my style.
And your last famous words are… ?
This, too, Shall Pass Away.
