Next September, 10 it will be published “Black Album Remastered” and “The Metallica Blacklist”, a tribute of 1991 masterpiece guesting 53 top artists.
Metallica will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their fifth self-titled album – a.k.a. “Black Album” – with two historic releases, both scheduled for September 10, on the band’s label, Blackened Recordings.
The “Black Album” is one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed records of all time. Released in 1991, it was the band’s first album to reach the top of the charts in more than 10 countries, including a four-week stay at number 1 in the United States.
The five iconic singles – “Enter Sandman”, “The Unforgiven”, “Nothing Else Matters”, “Wherever I May Roam” and “Sad But True” – contributed to the rise of the band as they acquired stadium headlining status. Press reception of the album was similar: from entering the top 10 in the 1991 Village Voice Pazz & Jop national critics poll to becoming a constant presence on the list of 500 best albums of all time.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the “Black Album”, a Grammy winner and sixteen times platinum certified, will be released in a new definitive version.
The “Black Album” 2021 remaster will be available in multiple formats including 180 gram double vinyl LP, CD, digital and Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set (containing the remastered 180G 2LP album, a picture disc , three live LPs, 14 Cds containing rough mixes, demos, interviews, live performances, 6 DVDs containing outtakes, behind the scenes, official videos, live performances, a 120-page hardcover book, four laminates of the tour, three lithographs, three guitar picks, a shoulder strap for the Metallica pass, a folder with text sheets and a download card).
“The Metallica Blacklist”, by the way, can be defined as much more than a simple tribute album. For the first time, more than 50 artists, spanning a wide range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, they gave a unique interpretation of their favorite piece from the “Black Album”.
“The Metallica Blacklist” reveals how the 12 songs have had a massive influence on fans and musicians of all genres. So the 53 tracks of “The Metallica Blacklist” see songwriters, country artists, electronic music and hip hop music artists sharing their love for these tunes alongside punk rockers, indie artists, icons of rock, metal, world music and many more.
“The Metallica Blacklist” will be available in various formats: digital, 4 CD and a limited edition of 7 vinyl LPs. The pre-order of the album will entitle both to the Instagram track of “Nothing Else Matters” in the version of Miley Cyrus with WATT, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Trujillo and Chad Smith (watch the video below!), and to that of “Enter Sandman” in the version of Juanes, superstar of Latin music.
All proceeds from “The Metallica Blacklist” will be split equally between the All Within My Hands Foundation and over 50 charities chosen by the artists playing on the album. All Within My Hands was founded by Metallica in 2017 and aims to assist and enrich the lives of community members who have supported the band for years with the education of the workforce, the fight against hunger and other essential local services.
