Story of an artist who lives and works on a Spanish island, at the ‘InkPerpetuum Tattoo’, but who also has a great desire to learn and interact with the rest of the world.
Hi Claudia, how did you choose to become a tattoo artist and was your path difficult or, all things considered, quite smooth?
Becoming a tattoo artist wasn’t in my plans. I discovered the tattoo world when I was studying fashion design at university, and then when I started tattooing I found it quite difficult. I received the traditional apprenticeship, so I spent like a year cleaning grips and tubes but now I appreciate a lot all the knowledge I gained.
You define yourself as a “Traditional/Neotraditional/Ornamental” tattoo artist. Did these three styles arrive consecutively (you started from Traditional and then expanded your knowledge in both NeoTrad and Ornamental) or does the fusion of these three souls coexist in you?
I always wanted to do Traditional style but I started with NeoTraditional because I had a lot of respect for the Traditional itself! (laughs) I wanted to study it properly before starting to tattoo it. Nowadays, I tattoo Traditional and Ornamental the most. I started with Ornamental because of my ethnic roots. I want to connect with this mystic and tribal part of tattooing that lives in me.
Are you fresh from ‘BAUM Fest’ 2024 held in Barcelona – how was the experience for you?
I started going to ‘BAUM Fest’ (IG: @baumfest) three years ago. I love tattoo conventions, so I enjoyed being there again. The experience was amazing because I reunited with a lot of friends that I made during all the tattoo conventions that I have attended so far.
Do you have a dream tattoo convention out of all the ones around?
My dream tattoo convention was always the ‘London Tattoo Convention’. I was there in 2019 as an assistant, the last one that was organized. But now I would love to participate at the ‘Gods of Ink’ (IG: @godsofinktattooconvention). I was there last edition as an assistant.
I spent the whole three days at ‘Gods of Ink’ enjoying and learning from the people I met and of course getting tattooed by a Canadian artist.
Do you have a previously unexpressed artistic desire that you would like to see fulfilled soon?
Luckyly I’ve been able to try all the artistic expressions because when I was a kid I danced, sang, acted, painted, drew, sewed etc… I was sure that I wanted to be an artist but I couldn’t know that tattoo finally would be the choosen one. In my case, I would like to dance again.
Can you tell me about ‘InkPerpetuum Tattoo’ from Santa Ponsa in the Balearic Islands? From the photos I’ve seen there is a great team of artists…
I love my colleagues and now we are a full female team so I feel very comfortable with them. My teammates at ‘InkPerpetuum Tattoo’ (IG: @inkperpetuum.tattoo) are twin sisters and most of the time I feel one of them.
Sandra Osorno (IG: @sandra_osorno) is the boss and she is a Realism focused tattooer.
I learned a lot from her about volumes, saturation, how to make a good sumi!
She is unique in the island, a complete Realism master like I said before. And then Lorena Osorno (IG: @lorenaosorno_tattoos), she is an apprentice of her sister. A very strong woman and of course I learn every day from her. She learns very quickly and tries to improve every day. I’m very proud of the team I belong to.
Let’s talk about autumn/winter 2024/2025. Do you have any tattoo conventions already marked in your agenda or any notable guest spots?
Currently I have two guest spots for November – both in Spain – in Madrid and Granada. And I just planned a tattoo convention for next March in Jerez de la Frontera, in Spain too. I would love to make some abroad tattoo conventions to learn more about other international tattoo artist and to live the experience out of my country.
And your last famous words are… ?
Do good and don’t look at who!
